VEIN
TREATMENT
Imagine beautiful legs free of unsightly veins. Unsightly leg
veins are a common problem that affect millions of men and women in a
wide range of age groups, skin types and lifestyles. Vericose veins are
enlarged vessels resulting from weakness in the vein wall. Spider veins
are small purple or red veins that stretch like a web near the surface
of the skin.
Previously, treating leg veins was a lengthy and painful invasive process.
Now, with VascuLight technologies, treatment for all types of unsightly
leg veins is simple and non-invasive.
There are two different types of VasuLight technologies to treat the
different types of leg veins. Varicose veins are usually deep blue veins.
Surface "spider" veins are typically discolored clusters near
the skin surface. Your doctor may use either, one or both of the light
technologies depending on your veins. Now there is also an effective noninvasive
treatment for most cases.
What technology is used for varicose veins?
Treating the larger, deeper veins requires the laser component of the
VascuLight system. These veins respond to the precise energy level and
wavelength of light used. The small spot of light travels through the
skin and is absorbed by the blood within the vein, based on its color.
The resulting heat will clot the blood thereby destroying the function
of the vein. It will not affect any of the surrounding tissue. In time,
the body will absorb the vein and disappear from sight.
What technology is used for surface veins?
These smaller surface veins are treated using light energy, which technically
is not a laser at all. The light energy is absorbed by the blood, changed
to heat and the vein is destroyed. This Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology
is exclusive to the VascuLight system.
How many treatments are necessary?
In many cases, leg veins need multiple treatments, usually spread out
over a few months for successful completion. Even small veins often require
time to resolve. Sometimes, a bit of "matting" or "staining"
surrounds the treated vein. Utilizing both VascuLight technologies, the
vein and this minor discoloration can be treated offering a complete and
successful outcome.
Is the treatment painful?
The pulse of laser energy may feel a bit like a light snap of a rubber
band. Chilled gel on the skin among other techniques are used to prevent
discomfort. The entire procedure is brief and non-invasive, no needles
are ever used.
What preparations should be made?
There are no significant preparations to be made that are necessary to
the completion of laser treatment. The main thing to avoid before and
after treatment is sun exposure. Treatment should not be performed on
tanned skin.
